Excited about Pluribus! Thoughts on S01E01-S01E02
Have you watched Pluribus?
You have to watch Pluribus.
In short, it's a science-fiction series with 9 episodes, with the MC, an unfulfilled romance author, having to face a "virus-invasion" that essentially wiped humanity (except for a select few), making everyone interconnected.
That random kid next door? Yep, that's your President, doctor, ex-lover, and lecturer all at once.
The first two episodes were extremely strong, particularly the first. The pacing and the way the scenes are shot reminded me a lot of a good video game intro, and it was very hard not to compare the series (with its themes, especially) to the first Last of Us game.
I think this show benefits from not knowing too much about it, so I won't share too much more. However, if you're looking for a good science-fiction or dystopian-like show, I think this would be up your alley!
Some spoilers here, please look away and skip this if you wouldn't want to be spoiled:
Burning questions/thoughts after the two episodes:
- I'm very very intrigued with who Carol will have to work with. Is she going to actually work with the playboy-esque guy? Who is that lady in the desert flying the plane? Is she integral to the story or just an introduction to a potential antagonist?
- I love what they're doing with Carol and how her temper/emotions can cause serious damage to the other virus-infected people. I think that raised the stakes super well, and I have trust that they'll use that leverage on her well.
- How important would Zosia be in the show? She reminds me of Janet from The Good Place, though she gives me an eerie version of her. Interesting directions I could see happening:
- Carol becomes somewhat attached to Zosia, seeing how Zosia knows the ins and outs of her relationship with Helen. Potential close friendship/romance, though I wouldn't know how this would work out.
- Zosia will develop conscience and will be able to make personal decisions, helping Carol in some way during the show.
- Why did some die from the virus but not others? For example, Helen dies from the seizure but others wake up and turn into the weird hive-mind people. How does the virus choose who to kill and who not to? Or is it just a random thing that happens?
